Dr. Andrew Frankel, MD, FACS
Dr. Andrew Frankel has been practicing at the Lasky Clinic since 1994. Originally from Highland Park, Illinois, Dr. Frankel completed medical school and a five year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles in order to complete an additional year of specialty training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. Frank Kamer. Dr. Frankel is board certified in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Otolaryngology (ENT) and exclusively performs surgery in the face, head and neck regions. Two years experience with Dr. Kamer gave Dr. Frankel an early expertise at performing deep plane face lifts. The great majority of Dr. Frankel’s practice involves facial rejuvenation (such as facelifts, brow lifts and eyelid surgery) and rhinoplasty. However, Dr. Frankel also performs reconstructive facial surgery such as for skin cancer or trauma and a great deal of revision nasal surgery to help improve breathing as well as to restore form. Dr. Frankel is a member of the National Domestic Violence Project, where he performs pro bono surgery on victims of domestic abuse.
Dr. Frankel serves as an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the division of Head and Neck Surgery at University of California, Los Angeles, where he was awarded the “Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award” in 1996. In 2007 Dr. Frankel was granted the distinction of becoming one of only 36 Fellowship Directors under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Frankel has remained actively involved in clinical research and has served as a consultant to several medical corporations in this regard. As an adjunct to his work as a surgeon, Dr. Frankel also serves as a consultant for a Hollywood special effects company. Dr. Frankel interacts directly with the special effects team and provides them an authentic, scientific perspective based on his expertise on facial aging and anatomy in order to make actors look younger, older or better in a realistic fashion. Dr. Frankel's work includes some of the amazing effects seen on such aclaimed films as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "The Departed", "Babel", "X-Men III", and the upcoming "Jack and Jill" as well as various television commericals. Dr. Frankel's work was recently featured on a television series on the Science Channel called "Science of the Movies".
Dr. Frankel is a recognized authority in his field. He has served as an editor for an entire monograph on midface lifting and has contributed published papers regarding many topics within the field of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Frankel has lectured at national and international meetings regarding facelifts, eyelid surgery, and midface lifts and has been an instructor as well as a lecturer regarding injectable filler agents. He published the first-ever scientific paper (“Chemical Brow Lift”) describing the use of Botox to change brow position and has continued to contribute chapters and papers regarding this topic. Dr. Frankel was one of only two doctors to be involved with the clinical research trials for both Restylane and Juvederm which led to their approval by the Food and Drug Administration as dermal fillers. As an adjunct to his participation in those studies, Dr. Frankel also co-authored the first published paper regarding the treatment of undesirable consequences from injections with Restylane.
