Facial Implants
When it comes to facial rejuvenation, people often think first about procedures that restore the structure of the face to a more youthful appearance. However, even young people may be dissatisfied with certain facial features. They may feel that their chin isn’t strong enough or they may long for higher cheekbones. In these instances, volume may be added where it is lacking and the overall facial balance can be improved with the use of facial implants. When properly placed, facial implants can provide dramatic results. An individual with a weak chin, for instance, will see a dramatic improvement in the overall features and increased facial harmony with the insertion of a chin implant.
Facial implants are most commonly used in the chin and cheek areas, though they are also used to alter the angles of the jaw and nose. Two types of implants are commonly used, including silicon implants and porex implants. Solid silicon implants have been used for years and these facial implants do not carry any of the complaints related to breast implants. In addition, leakage is not a concern since the silicon is solid. Porex implants are solid to the touch but are also porous like a sponge. There are advantages and disadvantages to both implants and the one that is right for you is best determined with the help of a qualified surgeon. There are also a variety of sizes and shapes that facial implants come in which makes it possible to fine tune the type of look that a patient wants. For instance, a more angular look to the whole face may be achieved by using a wider chin implant.
Implant procedures are relatively simple procedures that are commonly performed with twilight anesthesia. The incisions are well concealed, there is little pain, and recovery occurs within a matter of days.
Facial implants can be combined with other procedures, such as a facelift, to rejuvenate the face while also improving the facial structure. For instance, cheek implants are often combined with a midface lift and a chin implant is often combined with a necklift.
