Injectable Fillers

Facial fillers, also referred to as cosmetic surgery fillers, are injectable materials that may be used to fill out wrinkles and uneven areas on the face. There are many different types of facial fillers including Collagen, Perlane, Restylane and Sculptra.

Radiesse Artefill Injections LA CaliforniaMany people notice that fine lines begin to form on the face as early as their thirties. These fine lines often result from muscular activity or sagging, and they are areas where the natural collagen has thinned and broken down.

Botox is often used for wrinkles around the eyes occurring from muscle activity. Very deep lines or those resulting from sagging, such as the nasolabial folds which run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth, may be softened or even eliminated with a filler. By injecting the filler directly into the skin, the depressed line is plumped. Fillers may also be used on the lips, in which case they are injected on the inside of the lip which causes the lip to turn out a little.

Prior to the facial filler injection, the treated area will be numbed with ice or an anesthetic cream so that patients feel little to no pain.

The particular filler that is right for you will depend on several factors. Patients should take into count the duration of results, the cost, and the ease of administration.

Manufactured by Allergan, Restylane is the fastest growing filler in the U.S. today. Restylane is easily administered and offers results that feel natural and last for four to six months on average. Each syringe costs $400 to $500.

Collagen is also easily administered and offers results that may last about two to three months on average. Costs will vary.

Fat injection, in which fat is removed from a donor area like the thighs or buttocks and then injected into the facial area, is a more involved procedure requiring sedation. Though not all of the fat injected survives, what remains is permanent. In addition, there is no risk of allergic reaction as the fat is your own tissue.

Patients are typically able to return to work and other normal activities within a day after undergoing injectables like Botox, Restylane and collagen. Bruising can occur for several days. Fat injections usually require a bit more time off from work and swelling can remain for seven to ten days after the procedure.
